Many people treat paralysis as a curse. It is basically not a curse, rather it is a disease. Their can be many reasons for having this disease like blood hemorrhage in brain, brain hemorrhage due to any injury in brain or severe hit on spinal cord. Other than these, paralysis can be happened for tumor in brain or for the serious damage in any nerve. Whatever the reason is, the paralyzed patient loose the strength to control or function ability of that part of the body. Generally, patients one side of the body or both become paralyzed due to the hemorrhage in brain. They lost the strength to have the normal movement of their limbs. In many times, they can not talk or eat. Even in some cases, patients can not control their urine system.

In such situation, it is very normal to loose the hope and become very frustrated about life and patients (for the relatives). But this patients can recover from such disease with the help of right treatment.

For ensuring the right treatment, the first thing that need to be identified is the cause of paralysis for this patient. Their are some places like intensive care unit ((ICU), Coronary care Unit (CCU) for heart patients where we can take our patients quickly after the problem. With all other diseases, the patient need to take intensive physiotherapy. In maximum times, patients of paralysis have problems with their respiratory. For this reason, they should also need to undergo treatment for respiratory Physiotherapy at the same time.

How Many Days Patients Need to Take The Physiotherapy?

The first question that maximum patients or their relatives asked is- how many days they need to take the physio therapy? It is not very easy to answer this question. The main thing to concern in such situation is the level of affect the patients have. In general, a patient can recover from paralysis within the time limit of few months to few years.

The specialist need to take the decision of what physio therapy is needed for the patient at the time of status progress of the patient. One thing need to be mentioned, the patient and their relatives help and good wishes are very much essential to have the ultimate recovery. It is not very common to have the recovery from paralysis suddenly. And for this reason, we need to continue the treatment along with the physio therapy in a long-term approach.

Ultra-Violet Ray Can Reduce The Infection of Tuberculosis

Ultra-Violet ray can reduce the contagion of Tuberculosis. In a recent research, completed by Imperial College of London, it is being identified; the contagion of Tuberculosis can be reduced up to 70% by only placing a Ultra-Violet light in the ward of hospitals. This finding is presented in a medical journal published 3 weeks earlier.

Researchers said, they place a ultra-violet light-C on the ceiling of the building and the lights are distributed with the air flow of a fan. The DNA of the germs of Tuberculosis was harmed by the Ultra-Violet Light-C and ultimately the germ gets killed. Along with this, the medicine obstruction power of the germs also destroyed. For this reason, the contamination and expansion of this germ is mot at all possible. The scientists achieved the primary success by conducting research on patient.

As per World Health Organization (WHO), each year 0.9 billion people were contaminated by Tuberculosis. Among them, 0.2 billion people died. Especially the death rate is high in the poor countries. Other than this, the contamination rate is very high in Hospitals, Jail and Shelter Centers. Sometimes, the visitors even the medical assistant infected by this disease as the germs can very easily transformed from the patients.

Rodarick Askmob, the researcher of Imperial College at London told, the waiting rooms of hospitals are always crowded with visitors. The single cough of the tuberculosis patient in that room is enough to spread the germs among the persons waiting in that room.

By mentioning previous research work, Askmob said, keeping the window of the hospital is one easy way to reduce the chance of spreading the germs of Tuberculosis. But the process is depend on the climate of that location. Because in many location, due to the climate itself, it is not possible to keep the window open.

Researchers also mentioned, the expenditure to place the light is also very low. To place a Ultra-Violet Light-C on the ceiling, it required only $3.5. And in case of its replacement, each light is costing for $25.

Updated Asthma Guideline Will Improve Outcomes

An estimated 1.1 million children and 4.1 million adults in UK along are currently receiving treatment for asthma, and eight million have been diagnosed with asthma at some stage in their lives.

The diagnosis of asthma is clinical and there is still no gold standard definition. However, the presence of symptoms (more than one of wheeze, breathlessness, chest tightness and cough) and variable airflow obstruction are central to diagnosis.

The guideline advises using spirometry, rather than peak flow, as the preferred measure of lung function. Spirometry allows clear identification of airflow obstruction and the results are less dependent on effort. It should not be the preferred test where available.

Good control of asthma is defined as: no daytime symptoms; no night-time waking due to asthma; no need for rescue medication; noexacerbations; no limitations on activity, including exercise, and normal lung function.

Inhaled steroids should be considered for patients who have had exacerbations in the past two years; are using inhaled beta agonists at least three times a week; are symptomatic at least three times a week or are waking one night a week.

An inhaled LABA should only be started in patients who are already receiving an inhaled steroid. If asthma control remains suboptimal after the addition of an inhaled LABA, the LABA should be stopped and the dose of inhaled steroid increased.

For adult patients at step three who are poorly controlled, recent studies have suggested that using a budesonide/ formoterol combination inhaler as rescue medication instead of a short-acting beta agonist, in addition to its regular use as a maintenance therapy, can be an effective treatment option.

Patients with difficult asthma should be assessed systematically to conform or refute the diagnosis and identify the mechanism of persisting symptoms.

Inpatients should receive written personalised action plans as part of self-management education, given by an asthma specialist, before discharge. Plans should include written, personalized structured education; specific advice about recognising loss of asthma control, either through symptoms or peak flow recordings; and two or three action plans to take asthma deteriorates.

Exercise Can Be Effective Therapy For Depression

Exercise has been suggested as a means to lift mood for many years and there is increasingly strong evidence for its use as a treatment for depression. Several meta-analysis have produced robust evidence that exercise is effective as a mono-therapy for depression. There is also some evidence that exercise is beneficial as an adjunct to pharmacotherapy.

Depression represents the third largest disease burden on the European population, second only to Chronic Heart Disease when measured by effect on DALYs.

A recent survey found that only 2% of physicians use exercise as their first therapy for depression and 22% as one of their first three options.

Trials have shown that exercise reduces depression scores, with a standard mean difference of -0.66. This was significant in those studies comparing exercise with inactive controls, but no benefit was seen over psychosocial interventions. There is also some evidence that exercise provides additional benefit when combined with antidepressant drugs.

There are several theories about the mechanism of the antidepressant effect of exercise, both biological and psychological. Increases in endorphins or correction of defects in the HPA axis have been suggested.

There are few condition where exercise is absolutely contraindicated. Recommending exercise to almost all depressed patients is likely to be of benefit and is unlikely to cause harm. Patients with many serious medical conditions are known to be at risk of depression, and a positive outlook may assist recovery. Exercise therapy in these patients may serve a dual role.

It would be reasonable to recommend three sessions of high intensity exercise per week to most depressed patients, with the absolute intensity tailored to the individual patient, taking into account their comorbidities. An energy expenditure of 17.5kcal/kg/week equate to three sessions a week of exercising to a heart rate of 145 beats per minute for about 30 minutes.

Exercise can reduce cardiovascular risk. And major depressive disorder is a risk factor for Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), independent of traditional risk factors. Several hypotheses have been proposed to explain the mechanism of this link, including impaired arterial endothelial function, over activity of the sympathetic nervous system, platelet hyperaggregability, and abnormal folate and homocysteine metabolism.

Exercise is also of benefit in a variety of commonly coexisting clinical conditions, and hence would be recommended to the majority of patients with depressive symptoms presenting in primary care.
