Their is one reason for which we need to rethink about the treatment process of Type 2 Diabetes or the adult diabetes. From 3 recent researches, it is being identified that by only controlling the glucose seriously, it is not possible to avoid the risk of having heart diseases for advanced level patients of diabetes. Perhaps it is quite impossible for them if they have high blood pressure and have a fatty figure. Specialists said, the patients need to control their glucose seriously but at the same time they should be more concern to achieve the desired level of cholesterol and blood pressure through proper control mechanism. For those patients who recently identified their diabetes level, may not yet reached the danger level, can reduce the risk of heart diseases by imposing strict control over blood sugar.
For two-third patients of Type 2 Diabetes died for heart diseases and problems with blood circulation. It is perceived for a long time, if the patient can keep the ACI level up to maximum 6% (The border level for non-diabetic persons), then they can avoid many heart related critical situations. The recent treatment guideline for Type 2 Diabetic patient is to keep the ACI level within 7% maximum. It is tried to identify in a recent research on 23000 Type 2 diabetic patient, by medicine or insulin if the AIC level can be kept under 6%, then can we reduce the risk of having death incidents by heart diseases or problem in blood circulation. The research was conducted on patients who are in the age group of 60 and have diabetes for some previous years and their level of AIC is more than 7%. In this group of sample people, one third already had heart diseases or experienced brain stroke and among them many are highly vulnerable for heart diseases at a greater extent due to:
- High Blood Pressure.
- High Cholesterol Level.
- Smoking Habit.
- Fatty or bulky figure.
The total patients were divided into two group. One group follow strict treatment procedure to bring down the AIC level at maximum 6% when the other group follow the general treatment procedure. All these patients were planned to closely monitor for 5 years. But one of the research team, National Heart Lungs and Blood Institute of USA need to remove the strict treatment procedure as the patients of this group become 23% more risky to death than the other group.
In the beginning of December 2008, researchers of all three research teams present all these information in the Annual Assembly of American Diabetic Association.
But we should not even perceive any idea like controlling blood sugar is not at all important for diabetes treatment. The researchers mentioned that nobody should even think something like that. As it is not possible for highly risky patients to avoid the risk of heart diseases by only controlling the blood sugar, but the new diabetic patients can avoid difficulties regarding Micro vascular by keeping the blood sugar in a controlled level. It is being discovered that those patients who strictly control the blood sugar can reduce the risk of having kidney diseases for 21%.
The basic finding of all such researches is, their is no common solution for all.Mr. Martin Abramson, Medical Director of Josline Diabetic Centre of Boston said, the process of the treatment need to be based on individual patients situation. Moreover, the physicians need to consider:
- The basic structure of the patient.
- What are the diseases that the patient have?
- The expected average life time of the patient etc.
At the end, we can make a statement, all Type 2 Diabetic patients need to try to achieve the desired level of AIC, Blood Pressure and Cholesterol simultaneously. But different approaches may be taken based on the particular situations. Abramson mentioned, patients who recently identify their diabetes level and have no risk of having hard diseases need to strictly control their AIC level. But aged person, who already have hear disease may get much advantage by controlling blood pressure and cholesterol level. It is good if each type of patient take aspirin each day. The patients should avoid smoking, eat healthy food and do exercise regularly. Every specialist will agreed on this point.
